ENGLESKI PRIJEVOD
Could you introduce yourself to our readers and tell us something about yourself?
My name is Ricardo, I am a bass player and the founder of Mutilator together with my brother Rodrigo.
Can you tell us how you met and got the idea for the band?
We met at school, my brother and I started listening to Heavy Metal in 1982 and since then we always had a fixed idea to get a metal band together.
Mutilator, besides being known among the pioneers of metal in Brazil, is best known for its DIY ethic. Tell us more about this.
Really, we are pioneers along with countless bands here in Belo Horizonte, and from the beginning of the band we always had the idea of having and maintaining a very death metal aesthetic.
Along with Sepultura, Sarcofago and Overdose, Mutilator is considered a pioneer of metal in Brazil. You must be proud of that, so I would like to ask you to tell us a little more about the beginnings of metal in Brazil.
Yes, we are happy to have written many pages in the history of metal in Brazil, I feel – well, happy, but nothing that goes to the head, humility must be at the forefront of everything, I feel – I feel happy and fulfilled because I collaborated with the history of metal in Brazil.
Since the beginning of his career, Overdose has been associated with another band, Sepultura; the first vocalist is Silvio Gomes Bibika, who later became Sepulturi’s roadie, while guitarist Magoo was supposed to replace previous guitarist Jairo Guedz. Can you tell us more about that?
Yes, Silvio Bibika was the first singer of Mutilator, and Sepultura was always our sister band, so when Jairo Guedes left Sepultura, nothing more natural than Sepultura’s call, but like I said, all that is just history today.
Mutilator broke up in 93′, but the reunion happened in 2018. Can you tell us the reason for the break, as well as about the reunion itself.
The band broke up because from then until today, metal did not bring a financial return. So we had to split up to work and survive, that’s the reality of 95% of bands here in Brazil. But we’re back at the right time and we’re doing a great job and a credit to Brazilian metal.
Finally, what are your future projects? What would you say to our readers?
Mutilator is already playing a new song live, and we are rehearsing the other songs that will be part of the new Mutilator album. Our main plan for the future is to record and release this new album.
Thank you all for the opportunity.
